The COO-L Prepaid Card scheme is to help parents/guardians to encourage their children to take part in positive activities. The scheme is free to join and a bursary of £25 per month can be provided for the period of the scheme.  For charges for optional SMS balance enquiries, see terms and conditions for details. You do not have to do anything to register. Your child if eligible, will be provided with a card. You have a right to opt out of the scheme if you want to.

Parents of eligible children who have taken part in the COO-L On-line scheme in 2007-08 will be contacted in writing from April 2009 onwards.

The COO-L Prepaid Card will help young people and parents/guardians by:

• encouraging young people to take part in more positive activities
• providing funds for young people to take part in activities they cannot currently afford
• providing a safe way to carry money using the Chip and PIN COO-L Prepaid Card
• controlling where the money is spent
• making current activities cheaper
• encouraging young people off the streets and avoiding boredom and getting into trouble
• encouraging young people to take up new activities and interests
• improving young people’s health and social skills
• providing greater equality
• teaching money management skills
